Biking to Landskrona!
May 21, 2008
I decided I wanted to bike to Helsingborg the other day. 45 miles or so, decent ride, doable, right? Wrong. The wind was REDICULOUS, the bike ways weren’t clearly marked and so I had a bigtime hang up in Löddeköpinge. I almost couldn’t find my way out of freakin’ Bjarred! I know, CRAZY, RIGHT??!! I only made it Landskrona. Here’s some pictures.
Here’s the Bjarred harbor. The buildings in the distance are the tallest buildings of Copenhagen.
(not pictured: getting lost in Löddeköpinge, biking through three towns trying to make my way back to the coast, wind, frustration).
Here’s the big nature preserve/golf course north of Bärsebackshamn. The wind started to die down when I got to the shore, so the last 20km north were really nice and I pretty much had to stop complaining.
I was actually on a national bike route! This is Hjärup, where I stopped to eat a pizza.
Here is proof that Sweden can be ugly, too!
I always make fun of hairdresser places that have stupid puns in their name refering to hair, cutting, etc. This rules, though.
INDUSTRY!
This is the oldest non-military establishment in Landskrona. It was constructed as the summer palace for the aristocrat Svensson family, who were I’M JUST KIDDING. I don’t know what this building is, or anything about it, except it was very shiny, so I liked it!
Yeah, that’s a moat. Not just that – it’s only the OUTER moat.
The inner moat holds… The Citadel. It was built in the 15th century. According to the official website (if you can read Swedish), this is the place where Tycho Brahe’s pet moose, brought along to a party for a laugh, found its way into the mead and beer and got totally wasted. The big guy was smashed enough to tumble down a huge set of stairs and break its legs, after which it was put down, totally killing the party vibes. I remembered story that from the last time I was here!
And here’s a llama.
Some kind of weird stones and a odd nautical radio tower (?).
I took the train home. I got fined about 17 dollars on the train because I didn’t know my bike are charged the cost of an child’s ticket. Ouch.
